While it seems like you had just upgraded to SharePoint 2013, some have been hesitant about making the move to SharePoint 2016. While it is important to weigh the benefits against the inconveniences that come with upgrading a program that already does a fantastic job, some of our favorite added features of SharePoint 2016 will help you make up your mind.
Using MinRoles, SharePoint Administrators can now assign specific roles to each server when a farm is joined with another farm or when a new farm is created.
Zero Downtime Patching
Say goodbye to upset users complaining of a server downtime with Zero Downtime patching. The new feature removes server downtime for patching any SharePoint 2016 farm.
List View Threshold
While not a completely new concept, some aspects of List View Threshold have changed for SharePoint 2016. Where before, the List View Threshold was limited to 5000 items per view, this new update allows for greater than 5000. The thresholds are set to a default of 20,000, but when folders are renamed, the threshold default is upped to 100,000.
Few things are as frustrating as a broken link when you’re trying to access information or attempting to have a solid SEO strategy in place. A splendid bonus to SharePoint 2016, Durable Links uses unique resource IDs assigned to each document without damaging any links. Say goodbye to constant search index tweaking to keep your SEO processes functioning smoothly or having to keep generating new links to try and clean up broken ones.
SharePoint For Mobile UI
Where past editions of SharePoint have left mobile users wanting, SharePoint 2016 cleans up this dilemma with a new mobile UI and touch-responsiveness for phones and tablets alike. Accessing data in SharePoint has also never been so easy for users of all levels…or locations, for that matter!
Easy to Use User Interface
Microsoft has made using SharePoint much more intuitive on a daily basis with an enhanced user interface. The App Launcher helps users easily navigate through the entire system. The New “Share” options make it easy to send off data via email or a shareable link to include in other correspondence.
These are just some of our favorite new features of SharePoint 2016. Though software upgrades seem to come with a bit of downtime while the team learns the ins-and-outs of the system, SharePoint 2016 seems to easily make up for this with many time-saving features you and your team will love.
